Maria Terra Madre
In questa epoca la Terra, madre e fonte di vita, è maltrattata, inquinata, abbandonata, e la sua sopravvivenza è in grave pericolo.
Anche nella nostra valle, la bellezza dell’ambiente che abbiamo intorno, semplice, povero, plasmato nei secoli dalle fatiche della nostra gente, sta scomparendo. L’abbandono della vita contadina, l’avvento dell’era industriale e il culto del consumismo hanno allontanato l’uomo dal legame ancestrale con la terra. In molti paesi di montagna, il bosco si espande senza controllo e i prati, più deboli per natura e bisognosi di cure, vengono sopraffatti. Ma essi sono un bene da proteggere perché prati e uomini possono vivere solo insieme.; la scomparsa degli uni segna la scomparsa degli altri e viceversa.
Nel contempo molti paesi, tra cui l’Italia, vedono il crollo delle nascite di bambini e la maternità e sempre più un problema anziché un dono prezioso,
Maria Madre Terra oggi, come allora, arriva da lontano, è straniera, bussa alle nostre porte, chiede asilo: avremo il coraggio di darle accoglienza? Sapremo aver cura di Lei e del suo dono?

Nowadays the Earth, mother and source of life, is abused, polluted and abandoned. Her survival is endangered.
The beauty of our valley is also disappearing: its environment was shaped by hard labour during centuries and it is now changing. The rural flight, the industrial era and consumerism have loosened the ancestral bond between man and earth. In many mountain areas there are more and more woods replacing fields and growing uncontrolled. Fields need human care and attention. Fields and man are bound together: none can live if the others disappear.
Meanwhile, in many countries such as Italy, the birth rate is dropping and motherhood is seen as a problem rather than as a precious gift.
Today – just like 2000 years ago – this Mother comes from afar, she is a foreigner, she knocks at our doors seeking asylum: Will we have the courage to welcome her? Will we be able to take care of her and the Gift she brings us?
